NIS Science Laboratory Facilities

The NIS Science Laboratory Facilities provide our students and teachers with the necessary teaching and learning spaces. These facilities provide tools and materials to conduct lessons in scientific inquiry, manage skills in doing experiments, practice proper laboratory procedures and maintain safety measures at all times. Students are exposed to the study of the natural sciences such as Chemistry, Biology and Physics and are taught to follow the scientific method at all times. It also forms an integral part of our Explorer's Realm for Lifelong Learners which is an educational concept based on the STEAM approach which uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking.

Our teaching strategies which are in line with the IB philosophy, encourages students to learn by doing hands-on experimentation, doing close observations, asking questions and using their senses to lead them to the outcome and ultimate conclusions. This approach also affords students the chance to make discoveries on their own while learning the scientific process along the way.

Students in Middle and High School annually participate in a Science Fair during which they collaborate on projects based on scientific investigations. Students present their science projects to their peers, parents and families at this event.

Our Science Curriculum is designed to permit students to work cooperatively with their peers in their Units of Work, to explore new ideas independently and to be innovative in their inquiry strategies and approaches to problem-solving.
